Cellucor has taken off in the last year to become one of the top supplement manufacturers. With the success of their concentrated pre workout, C4 Extreme, as a result of the widespread DMAA ban, Cellucor has decided to further branch out into the pre workout world with their new and supposedly innovative product, Cellucor M5 Extreme. Is it a good product, or just a gimmick?
What is Cellucor M5?
Cellucor M5 is a pre workout supplement with a difference. Normally, pre workout supplements have two components. The first is a combination of stimulants, and the other is designed to support the remainder of your workout. However, with M5, instead of giving you a powder with two of those components together, it is separated into two individual compartments within the same canister so you can make up the pre workout to suit your needs.
First Impressions of Cellucor M5
The first thing you notice about M5 is how big the tub is. From a far, the distinctive chrome tub can be mistaken for a protein. However a closer inspection reveals that it is actually a conglomeration of two rubs. The first compartment, on top, contains the stimulant portion, known as Ignite. This contains the usual suspects of caffeine, N-acetyl-L-tyrosine, as well as a few B vitamins for energy. The second/bottom compartment contains Build, the real guts of the product. In here, you will find creatine, leucine, beta alanine, arginine, betaine, citrulline, and grape seed extract. These ingredients have benefits that may help to promote muscle strength, endurance, nitric oxide production, and antioxidation.
Cellucor M5 Difference from the Competition
The difference of M5 from the competition is abundantly clear. By separating the pre workout into two components allows individuals to tailor M5 to their specific needs. For example, the bottom compartment is completely stimulant-free, so it can be used even in the evening without fear of caffeine keeping you up at night. Conversely, stimulant connoisseurs may like to add more scoops of the top component to get a stronger kick.
Of Particular Interest
One thing that that really stands out about Cellucor is how transparent their labels are, and the may very well be industry leaders in this department. Although some may not really care about this, personally I feel that it is very important to know exactly what you are getting. With M5, Cellucor have done an excellent job of listing most the key ingredients with the doses right next to them. In this particular case, complete label transparency actually works in favour of M5, because the doses Cellucor have included are actually pretty generous.
Cellucor M5 Taste and Mixability
Cellucor M5 is one of the better mixing pre workouts. Quite often with pre workouts, there is a large amount of sediment on the bottom, a problem you do not encounter with M5. Quite interestingly, not only are the ingredients split with M5, but so is the flavouring. For example, with the cherry limeade flavour, Ignite contains the limeade, while Build contains the cherry flavouring to combine into cherry limeade when mixed together.
The flavour of M5 has received mixed reviews. It can be described as appearing more natural than some other pre workout supplements because it is one of the few that are quite sour (to reflect the limey-ness of the limeade). However, this sourness may not be to everyone’s liking if they are used to a sweet beverage.
Cellucor M5 Negatives
Although M5 has more potential than other pre workouts for customisation, as a product it is starting to blur the line between formulated pre workout supplements and home-brews. It is possible that this product will opens doors for more and more manufacturers making pre workouts with even more room for customisation, to the point where you might as well just make your own mix from raw ingredients.
Another potential drawback for M5 is that its closest rival is actually a product from the same brand, Cellucor C4. The ingredients between these two products are quite similar, although M5 does have a few more extras as well as higher concentrations/serve. Strictly speaking, this isn't so much a negative for the product itself, but it is questionable marketing. With the release of what is essentially a better version of C4, Cellucor may be stealing sales from themselves by converting people away from C4 instead of other brands.
Who is Cellucor M5 for?
Cellucor M5 Extreme is a very low calorie pre workout that has more flexibility than the average pre workout supplement. It is therefore suitable for anyone, at any phase, at any time of the day, who is looking to amplify their workout with high doses of research backed ingredients. However, is you are looking for a plain stim-free pre workout supplement, you’re probably better off buying a straight up stim-free powder, instead of throwing out half of M5. However, if you are a fan of Cellucor C4, you will love M5, along with its higher doses and added extras.img height=
