MusclePharm has always been a company that constantly brings out new products every couple of months. As a company, they’ve done well in managing and updating their range to keep ahead of the industry trends. One of their most recent additions is a revamp of their intra workout and amino acid supplement to the MusclePharm Amino 1 Black.

MusclePharm Amino 1 Black Highlights

  • Excellent intra-workout formulation
  • 3:1:2 BCAAs for recovery and muscle building
  • Potent Energy Blend to support focus and attention
  • Added glutamine, glycine and taurine to support exercise performance and energy supply
  • Restores hydration and electrolyte balance

MusclePharm Amino 1 Black Review & Ingredients

MusclePharm’s Amino 1 Black formula is a little bit more advanced than the original with some excellent ingredient additions. Both supplements still share the same amount of branched chain amino acids, namely:

  • Leucine (1.5g), Valine (1g) and Isoleucine (500mg)

The Amino 1 Black contains a simplified version of the original Cellular Energy & ATP Fueler Matrix, however, the dosages of the ingredients left have definitely increased:

  • L-Glutamine (3g), L-Glycine (2g), Taurine (2g)

Their amino hydration system has also been downsized to contain only one ingredient:

  • Coconut Water Powder (100mg)

Perhaps the biggest change to the Amino 1 Black has been the addition of a new Energy Blend, which contains 4 key active ingredients including:

  • Caffeine Anhydrous (100mg)
  • Green Tea Lead Extract (50mg)
  • Panax Ginseng (50mg)
  • Theacrine (25mg)

The serving size has reduced slightly to 12.8g per serve, with each 384g tub containing 30 servings.

MusclePharm Amino 1 Black Benefits, Pros & Effectiveness

The new Amino 1 Black is definitely an improved intra workout. The simplified reformulation along with some excellent added ingredients have definitely improved the supplement. The branched chain amino acids will help to support recovery and decrease muscle breakdown, whilst the added glutamine, glycine and taurine can help with energy support and also energy production. The addition of the four ingredient energy blend will really help you sustain mental focus and energy levels throughout the session to keep you on track and prevent fatigue. Each serve only has about 100mg of caffeine, so you can definitely still take this along with most pre workouts if you wish. The hydration matrix actually contains a healthy amount of key electrolytes, which will help with longer or more intense training sessions.

MusclePharm Amino 1 Black Negatives & Cons

While the content of the formula is definitely a highlight, there might be some dosing issues. 3g of BCAAs is an okay amount, but it could definitely do with more. This is especially important for those who don’t intend to have a protein shake or a high protein meal before or after their workouts. The dosing of some of the ingredients of the energy blend can also be increased as well for better effect.

MusclePharm Amino 1 Black Flavours, Taste & Mixability

MusclePharm’s new Amino 1 Black currently comes in only 2 flavours; Watermelon and Fruit Punch. Both mix extremely well without any clumps or residue. There is a bit of frothing due to the presence of BCAAs, however not enough to make it unpleasant. It’s a little bit on the sweet side, but diluting it a little will easily fix this.

MusclePharm Amino 1 Black Verdict

Overall, the MusclePharm Amino 1 Black is a very decent intra workout formula that should help to support and maintain energy levels, whilst delaying fatigue and decreasing muscle breakdown. If you find yourself eating and supplementing well, but are lacking a little bit in terms of recovery and during workout performance, the Amino 1 Black can definitely be a useful addition to your stack.
