If you find yourself struggling with discipline it might be time to ask yourself a few questions. What is it you are choosing over training, and why is high-calorie junk food finding its way into your mouth? If a powerful body is what you crave then you have to make choices that will help you achieve that goal. Each time you give in to temptation you will feel weak and your self esteem will take a hit. To be successful in your pursuit of an incredible physique, you must become a master of self discipline.
Tips for Mastering Discipline for Bodybuilding Success
Attitude. Attitude is the number one key to maintaining discipline. A positive attitude will ignite confidence and enthusiasm. It may sound corny but being positive is incredibly important. All our choices and reactions are filtered through our attitude. Forint example, imagine if you believed no matter how hard you trained you would never reach your goals. How inspired would you be to work hard? Now imagine how hard you would work if you had no doubt that in three months time you would have completed whatever goal you had set yourself for that period. Being positive can also be a great tool for dealing with adversity. If you are confident and believe without a doubt you can achieve your goals, then any roadblock will feel only like a minor setback, rather than a reason to throw in the towel. Whatever you believe is what you will achieve, whether it be an award-winning physique, or failure to follow through with your goals.
Internal Dialogue. Whether we admit it or not, the truth is we all experience internal dialogue on a daily basis. That voice in our head that helps us weigh up situations, that comes up with random thoughts throughout the day and pushes its way into our minds at night. Gaining control of this internal dialgue is imperative to being successful in any venture, bodybuilding in particular because it demands such a high level of discipline. All too often our internal dialogue presents itself as a criticial voice determined to point out every fault with our appearance, both real and imagined. By learning to harness the power of internal dialogue and make it work for you, rather than allowing it to feed on your insecurities, you will have a powerful force behind you. While there are a number of courses and books on the subject, one way to get started is by simply realising the voice you hear is nothing more than a conversation in your mind - not fact. Most of the negative dialogue is fueled by inner fears you may not even be aware of on a conccious level. The important thing to realise is that it is not the truth and you can input your own intellectual voice into the conversation. If your internal dialogue says - You can never be like those guys in the magazine, why are you wasting yout time? Start by saying to yourself - That's just my fear talking, if I really want to I can achieve anything, after all they did it, there's no reason I can't too. Then immediatly take positive action to prove it to yourself. This can be done by either having a great workout or making a healthy meal, anything that reaffirms that you are in control. Practise makes perfect and the more you take control of your inner dialogue the more powerful you will become. Eventually you will be able to use what was once a debilitating voice, to encourage you all the way to winning a competition.
Bodybuilding & Sacrifices
The hard fact is to succeed in bodybuilding there are things you are going to have to give up. This in itself can be difficult because while the mind immediately goes to food, sweet treats are only one part of the sacrifice required to create and maintain a stellar physique. It goes without saying that sugar-filled food cannot be regularly consumed as part of a bodybuilders diet, but while most are prepared for this sacrifice they do not take into account the amount of time required for training, the ease in which a family eats together, or the constant hassle when dining out. There is also the monetary cost for high quality food, supplements, gym memberships and other expenses - this money has to come from somewhere. Other sacrifices include time spent with loved ones. Serious training can take up around 880 hours per year between gym time and food preperation. Then there is the sacrifice of physical comfort. Aching joints, torn muscles and strained tendons are a constant companion of the bodybuilder. To overcome the temptation of a yummy looking donut, or a lazy Saturday afternoon on the couch with your partner takes discipline. The best thing to do when you are tempted is to think about what you are getting versus what you are losing. Within a couple of minutes the donut will be gone and ín its place will be hours of regret. Not worth it. As for the afternoon on the couch with your partner, that 's up to you.
