Diuretics (Water Loss)
The last thing any bodybuilder, or even any regular person, wants is to feel or look bloated. For most bodybuilders and fit people, bloating is typically caused by water retention, with the body able to hold up to five kilograms of spare water and sodium. As many will know, bloating is extremely uncomfortable and can negatively affect performance in bodybuilding and weightlifting competitions. Diuretics, also known as water pills, provide an almost too-good-to-be-true way to eliminate excess water and sodium without dehydrating your muscles.
The other major purpose of diuretics is for weight loss. There are various products available; some providing a better long term effect, whilst others can achieve rapid weight loss. Basically, Diuretics are a good option for male and female bodybuilders, fit people wishing to reduce water retention, models or people who are dependent on their body’s appearance for career purposes and also regular people wanting to lose weight.
In addition to benefits such as reduced water retention and weight loss, Diuretics also have the ability to improve muscle definition without losing muscle size. How is all this achieved? Diuretics block the exchange between sodium and iron, which results in increased urination and higher levels of sodium and water excretion. The best part is that your muscle cells will remain hydrated – it is purely excess water that Diuretics target. Diuretics are available in capsule form and should be approved by your health consultant before you start taking them regularly. They are not suitable for some medical conditions and should also be avoided by pregnant and lactating women. Always be sure to take only the recommended dosage, as an overdose may cause dehydration.
Diuretics consist of a number of natural, fluid reducing herbs such as green tea extract, hydrangea and dandelion root, buchu leaf, juniper berry, nettle, fennel, ascorbic acid, celery seed. Most will also include essential vitamins and minerals including vitamin B6, magnesium, folic acid, l-taurine and calcium. Some Diuretics supplements have been known to flush out potassium along with the excess water; however, most brands now include potassium as an ingredient. Double check the label before purchasing any Diuretics products.
Not only benefiting the body’s appearance, Diuretics are commonly used for medical purposes and have been known to reduce the risk of stroke, heart attacks, dementia, edema and polycystic ovarian syndrome. They have also been used to treat numerous kidney conditions, as well as high blood pressure, osteoporosis and some forms of diabetes. For synergistic fat & water loss results Diuretics may be effectively stacked with a number of supplements including Thermogenics, Fat Metabolilsers, CLA & more. Herbal Dieuretics are considered safe with little to no negative side effects. As always one should though as a precaution check with your health care professional before starting any supplementation programe, especially if you suffer from any liver, kidney or pre-existing medical condition. Females should not take Dieuretics while pregnant or lactating.
