Gluta Blast is the latest product from ProMera Health, an American company who take an innovative approach to sports supplements. Probably best known as the makers of CON-CRET, the first Creatine Hydrochloride product on the market, and for orally dosed ATP supplement Peak 400, the only product of its kind, the newest member of the ProMera range continues to buck against what company founder John Lewis has described as the "me too" mentality of manufacturers in the supplement industry. Gluta Blast is a supplement that is, once again, a unique alternative to other glutamines on the market.

Promera Gluta Blast Ingredients & Dosage
Promera Gluta Blast contains four different forms of glutamine:
- L-glutamine is the traditional single-amino acid form of glutamine, present in most supplements.
- N-acetyl-L-glutamine is a stabilised form of glutamine.
- L-alanyl-L-glutamine (Sustamine) is a glutamine-alanine dipeptide.
- Magnesium glycinate glutamine chelate (TRAACS) is an engineered glutamine complex, bound to a magnesium atom and the amino acid glycine.
It also contains a megadose of vitamin B6.
Promera Gluta Blast Pros & Effectiveness
Many athletes swear by glutamine supplementation. Glutamine carries nitrogen around the body. It helps in the growth and repair of muscles, can regulate protein synthesis and breakdown, and it helps keep the immune system healthy. Glutamine is not normally considered an essential amino acid, but when the body is under stressful conditions, like high intensity training, glutamine is depleted from the body. Up to 50% of the free glutamine can be lost from muscle tissue after a strenuous workout. Glutamine deficiency may cause muscle wasting and poor immunity. Inclusion of four different forms of the glutamine in the one supplement is something that has not been done before, and is a big plus for a couple of reasons.
These different forms of glutamine present in this supplelment are absorbed in a number of ways. This means there's less competition at each receptor, so the glutamine may be absorbed more efficiently. The different methods of absorption may also mean a longer-lasting product that can keep the glutamine coming all the way through a workout. Glutamine is a notoriously unstable amino acid which starts to break down as soon as it comes into contact with water. This means that by the time it reaches the intestine, where it is absorbed, some of it is already inactive. The inclusion of super-stable forms, like N-acetyl-L-glutamine, and the magnesium chelate mean this could be a more active and effective product than traditional supplements.
L-alanyl-L-glutamine dipeptide (Sustamine) is an excellent inclusion. Dipeptides are known to be absorbed faster than single amino acids, and alanine is a good pairing for glutamine. Both are depleted from the muscles during training, and these two amino acids are known to work synergistically to transport nitrogen and keep muscle cells hydrated, which may improve the intake of BCAAs and protein synthesis. B6 is also a clever addition to an L-glutamine supplement. This vitamin plays an important role in the pathway that converts glutamic acid, a glutamine metabolite, to GABA. GABA is a neurotransmitter, which is important to the function of muscles and which is thought to have calming properties.
Promera Gluta Blast Cons
While pure supplements are popular, lots of people do like to stack their L-glutamine. Stacking with carbs and electrolytes can enhance absorption and increase hydration levels in the muscle cells. This can, in turn, enhance the intake of BCAAs, which are another good, popular choice to stack with L-glutamine. Even though this is a versatile stand alone product, many people like the convenience of something easy and all-in-one. Lots of people find existing L-glutamine supplements sufficient to meet their needs. This is a new product, and only time will tell whether or not this novel approach taken by ProMera represents an improvement on standard L-glutamine, which is one of the most popular supplements out there.
Promera Gluta Blast Taste & Mixability
The product mixes reasonably well, and ProMera have once again gone with their popular Blue Raspberry and Lemon Lime flavours for Gluta Blast, both of which do a great job masking a slightly bitter taste.
Promera Gluta Blast Verdict
Gluta Blast is a great before, during or after a workout, or even at night, to maintain glutamine levels and prevent muscle loss. In Gluta Blast, ProMera have once again come up with a truly innovative product. It will be interesting to see how much of the market share they are able to capture.
