Whilst we can’t control everything that happens, we can decide how to make the best of it. Without doubt, you will be able to think of many positive things that have come out of experiences you have had. These experiences have made you who you are today. It’s no use focussing on bad things that may occur, in fact by focussing on the potential for positive to happen, the outcome will become positive.

Surround Yourself With Inspiring People

Think of a friend who constantly complains. Surely this person drains you. Consider the lack of energy they experience as a result of their mindset. Contrast this to a friend who is full of life and positive energy. Surely they have overcome hardship as well. Rather than dwell on these, they’ve chosen to move on and make the most out of each situation, becoming stronger as a result.

Tips for Dealing With Difficult Situations

  • Identify the Problem and The Reason Behind It. Pre-empting something you hadn’t planned or hope to occur is important to help you deal with it should it arise. Denial will not help the situation, as you will not learn from it, and you’ll experience a difficult time overcoming what happens. Identification of the issue enables you to objectively plan actions moving forward to solve the situation. For example if a particular diet was not working for you, if you refused to accept this fact, you’d not be able to move forward to make the necessary adjustments to improve your situation. This is not a good solution. If you accepted that this eating plan as not effective, you’d find renewed energy to making the necessary changes to achieve your aim. On the positive side, the stalling of the diet’s effectiveness has prompted you to look at other options that may better serve you.
  • Step Back From The Problem to observe it from a distance. Look at how much of an effect the situation has on your life. Is it as bad as it may seem? Often, this situation will be unpleasant for just a short period. Taking this sense of perspective you’ll be less likely to exaggerate how bad things really are. As a result, you can look more positively at the situation enabling yhou to recover more quickly. Stepping back can also help you see the whole picture and apply this new learning to other areas of your life thus enhancing your personal growth as well.
  • Don’t Forget The Experience. Whilst you may wish you never had the particular experience, forgetting it would be a mistake. The event happened for a reason, and by identifying the problem and the reasons behind it, and stepping back form the problem, you can come up with proactive steps so that it won’t happen again. In the given example, if the reason your diet wasn’t working was due to a food intolerance, you can take this as a cue to look at alternative foods that will benefit you, rather than causing you grief.

Be Positive & Grow

Next time you are faced with a setback, consider these steps so that you can see the situation from a more positive perspective. By stepping back from the problem, you can assess how the situation will effect you in the long term, and more often than not it will provide some benefit to you. By identifying the reasons behind the problem and remembering them will enable you to prevent it happening again, and hopefully in the future you’ll be able to remember the situation and laugh about it. Stages like these are necessary parts of helping you get to where you are today.
