Max’s BetaPump Black Review
One of the most iconic brands in Australia, Max’s have reinvented themselves recently with the release of a wide range of new supplements such as their 100% Pure Whey, Clean Mass and Shred System. Getting away from protein powders though, Max’s has also brought out an updated and stronger version of their pre workout BetaPump. Known as Max’s BetaPump Black, let’s take a look at what you can expect and how it compares with the original and its competitors.
- Increased caffeine content for stronger energy support.
- Good hit of pump support ingredients which help to enhance blood flow to the muscles
- Help improve focus, motivation and attention
- Support endurance capacity during cardio or weight training
Max’s BetaPump Black Ingredients & Dosages
Max’s BetaPump Black contains a very similar ingredient profile to the original, however has simply upped the dosage of some ingredients as well as adding a couple of new ones. The main changes include:
- Increasing the caffeine content to 325mg
- Transparently labelling the amount of Beta-Alanine per serve (1.6g)
The rest of the formula has stayed the same, separated into two complexes including:
- Max’s Energy Focus Matrix - Cytidine Diphosphate-Choline (CDP-Choline), Acetyl L-Carnitine
- Max’s Nitric Oxide Matrix - Citrulline Malate, Beet Root Extract, Arginine AAKG, Arginine Ketoisocaproate (A-KIC), Agmatine Sulfate, Glycocarn (Glycine Propionyl-L-Carnitine HCL), Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), Coenzymes Q10, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Glycine, D-Glucuronolactone
The serving size has remained the same at 10g with each tub containing about 30 serves.
Max’s BetaPump Black Benefits, Pros & Effectiveness
As the BetaPump Black formulation doesn’t differ very much from the original, you can expect very similar effects. The original BetaPump provided great pump and focus thanks to validated ingredients such as citrulline, agmatine, arginine, beet extract and acetyl l-carnitine just to name a few. The use of other ingredients such as glucuronolactone, coenzyme Q10, beta-alanine and glycocarn help to support endurance capacity as well, helping you train longer under both aerobic (cardio) and anaerobic (weight training) conditions.
A big difference between the original and the BetaPump Black is the increased caffeine content. At just over 3 cups of coffee, it provides a jolt of energy that will have you eager to train and crushing through all your exercises at a swift pace. BetaPump Black is definitely considered a higher stim pre workout, so if you like your pre workouts on the stronger side, you’ll be wanting this in your stack.
Max’s BetaPump Black Negatives & Cons
Again, as BetaPump Black hasn’t had too much of a formula change, many of the original issues are still present. While it’s good that Max’s has decided to list the amount of caffeine and beta-alanine per serve, it would be nice to see a completely transparent label with all doses listed.
As previously mentioned in our BetaPump Review, the inclusion of alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is an odd choice. The ingredient itself is involved in aerobic metabolism, displays insulin like effects and may support improved blood flow, but no studies currently show improved exercise performance with its supplementation. On top of this, many of the above effects are a result of longer term supplementation. We are being nitpicky here though, as there aren’t too many other issues we have with the supplement.
Max’s BetaPump Black Flavours, Taste & Mixability
BetaPump Black is available in the same two flavours as the original, including Blue Raspberry and Orange Pineapple, however has added in an extra flavour of Green Apple. Like the original, the product mixes superbly without any noticeable residue or grittiness. Although the powder itself smells quite strong, it does mix into a pleasant smelling and tasting shake, which isn’t too sweet.
Max’s BetaPump Black Verdict
While the original BetaPump was suitable for most workouts and more novice to intermediate trainers, Max's BetaPump Black was formulated for the other side of the coin. Designed for those participating in more intense workouts or those who enjoy a bigger stim kick, it offers the same excellent pump and focus support, but offers an improved energy profile. There are some lingering issues such as the use of a proprietary formula and some odd ingredient inclusions, but overall, BetaPump Black works, and that’s really all that matters.
