Tips For Balancing Mind & Body For Bodybuilding Success

  • Have you ever noticed that you were able to lift a weight to impress friends which was heavier than you have ever been able to lift before? This is proof that you can draw strength from within to achieve lifts beyond your expectations when harness the power of your mind. The difference between extrinsic motivation and intrinsic motivation is the source of your desire. Success in bodybuilding relies on a combination of both. Extrinsic motivation is when a person is moved to achieve a goal because of an external reward, such as developing a great looking physique. An intrisically motivated person by their internal interest in the goal, such as a desire to undertand how the body works and to be healthy.

  • Body Over Mind. While the mind has considerable influence on the body, bodybuilding also has a powerful influence on the mind. Intense training causes the body to release endorphins which have a positive effect on your mood. This is just one of the positive physiological effects initiated by bodybuilding. With training, oxygenated blood is pumped through your system, bringing about many positive effects. It also has a positive influence on your personality, lifestyle, and how you deal with the demands of modern living. Discipline is key to bodybuilding success. You must exhibit high levels of concentration, be proficient at goal setting and being persistent with your training and diet on a daily basis. Whilst bodybuilding may seem challenging and time consuming, it has much to offer.

  • Is it Worth the Effort? Bodybuilding boosts self-esteem, self-confidence, and helps you enjoy life. To have a positive self-worth, you can’t just ‘believe’ in yourself, you need to be able draw on actual achievement for it to be real. Through educating your mind, improving your talents, and creating a physically superior body, you will realistically enhance your self-esteem. Improving your body means that you have real reason to be proud, rather than depending on ego, (where you’d take credit for qualities that aren’t real).

  • Bodybuilding Changes More Than Your Body. Not only does it make you feel better about yourself, it changes the way people actually treat you. Fortunately this in non-discriminatory. Anyone can benefit from the positive effects of bodybuilding. It is also worth mentioning that many people have preconceived ideas about bodybuilders. Therefore, it is important not to fall into the trap of relfecting any negative perceptions. It can be frustrating to be perceived as a bully or being self indulgent just because you enjoy training your physique. So while bodybuilding does increase confidence, is it also a good idea to show people you have more to offer than an incredible body. Make it a goal to also develop other interests and try not to intimidate others who may not be as dedicated to their goals as you are, after all not everyone has the ability to achieve what you have.

  • Bodybuilding & Reality. Bodybuilding puts you in touch with reality. When you’re training, it’s all about you and the weight before you in the present moment. Over time consistency will reward you with progressive results. The human body was not designed to be sedentary, it was created to hunt and gather. Without a physical outlet tension builds up within us. Fortunately exercise gives us an outlet for our daily tensions and satisfies the body’s need for strenuous activity.

  • Strength in Body & Mind. The mind and body are strongly interconnected. With focus, you can lift a weight that may have seemed previously impossible. Training releases endorphins which make you feel good in the short term, and in the longer term, your health, body and self-esteem will all be improved. These do not come easy though, as discipline, concentration, and goal setting are all instrumental for bodybuilding success. Nothing good comes easily. Limitations may be faced, and frustrations and disappointments may be experienced along the journey. The mind and body are interconnected. With bodybuilding training, as the body’s health improves, so do health and strength of the mind.
