After their most famous product, the controversial pre-workout, Craze, disappeared from the shelves in 2013 amid allegations that it was adulterated with amphetamines, there was a lot of speculation about what the next step would be for Driven Sports. Our questions were soon answered when the infamous company began circulating word of a comeback, and followed through with five brand new products, one of which is Splyce, an intra workout supplement.

Focus on strength and endurance
BCAA-based muscle building and recovery
Classic formula with an innovative twist
Driven Sports Splyce Ingredients & Dosage
In light of Driven Sports' history, Splyce has a remarkably tame formulation. This does not, by any means detract from the product, which contains a simple and well chosen blend of research-backed ingredients.
Like most intra-workouts, Splyce is a Branched Chain Amino Acid (BCAA)-based product, and sports a 2:1:1 ratio of Leucine to Isoleucine and Valine. BCAAs comprise just under half of the overall volume of each serving. Cell volumisers Taurine and Betaine (tri-methyl glycine) delay fatigue and promote strength throughout the workout. A unique inclusion in an intra-workout supplement, Alpha-Lactalbumin is a BCAA-rich whey fraction with a number of touted benefits.
Each 388g tub of Splyce contains 40 one-scoop servings of 8.95g.
Driven Sports Splyce Pros & Effectiveness
BCAAs are the classic intra-workout ingredient, which Driven Sports have realised, as they have been given top billing on the ingredient list. They are great for both muscle building and recovery, and their inclusion in this supplement is undisputed.
At the other end of the spectrum, Alpha-Lactoglobulin is a whey microfraction that is more commonly seen as part of a whey blend, and its inclusion in this intra-workout is quite inspired. Research has shown that Alpha-Lactoglobulin is able to lower blood glucose levels, and increase the oxidation of fat. Utilising fat as an energy source during a workout not only helps to sculpt the body, but provides an extra source of fuel allowing the muscles to work for longer without fatigue. Additionally, Alpha-Lactoglobulin is a second source of BCAAs.
Splyce, with it's simple stim-free formula, complements Driven Sport's new pre-workout, Frenzy, very well. Both supplements concentrate on promoting strength and endurance and the mix of antioxidants, cellular buffers, and energy boosters present in both these products would work well together to get the most out of every session.
Driven Sports Splyce Cons
It's hard to fault a BCAA-based intra-workout formula, and one of the only criticisms that can be leveled at Splyce is that it may be slightly underdosed for some people. Even through Splyce is a proprietary blend of ingredients, we do know the BCAAs make up 3.6g of the 8g blend (per 8.95g serving), leaving 4.4g for Taurine, Betaine and Alpha-Lactalbumin. Some people may wish to consume two scoops of Splyce during their workout, which is perfectly safe to do.
Training is an energy intensive activity, and many people wish to replenish their reserves with carbs during a workout. In addition, the presence of glucose can prevent the amino acids being broken down and used for energy, instead of for muscle building. On the other hand, there are many compelling reasons to go carb-free, as Splyce has, and versatility is high on that list – you can always add carbs, but you can't take them away.
Driven Sports Splyce Taste & Mixability
Splyce is available in fruit punch and watermelon flavours. Both of these have been well received and do an excellent job of masking the any residual bitterness from the active ingredients. The powder dissolves almost instantly in water to produce a pleasant cordial-style drink.
Driven Sports Splyce Verdict
Splyce is a solid product based on research-proven ingredients, with an innovative twist that distinguishes it from other pre-workouts on the market. While it fits in well with other new products in the range, it will be interesting to see whether a straight down the line product like Splyce represents the new direction Driven Sports has chosen to move in. If so, they have chosen well.
