What is African Mango?
African Mango, also known as Bush Mango or Irvingia is a native mango species to Africa and Southeast Asia. The trees themselves are valued for their mango like fruits as well as the nuts produced which are both high in fats and protein. In the last couple of years, African Mango has also been said to be beneficial for fat and weight loss.
Where Does African Mango Come From?
As previously mentioned, African Mango is native to Africa and Southeast Asia. Currently extracts of the African Mango seeds is the preferred method of consuming the ingredient as this offers a more concentrated portion of the functional compounds.
African Mango Benefits
While few studies have been conducted on African Mango, an earlier study1 was able to show a reduction in weight, but also showed that this reduction wasn’t a result of lost fat mass. The researchers were however unable to identify where the weight loss came from. In a latter 2009 study2, researchers were able to show that there was indeed fat loss with the use of an African Mango seed extract. Obese patients consuming 150mg of the extract had a 6.3% decrease in body fat mass compared to the 1.9% decrease in the placebo group. This was without any intervention or change in both diet or physical activity. The participants consuming African Mango also showed improvements in total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and hunger hormones. Another study3 was able to show that a combination of Cissus Quandrangularis (CQ) and African Mango resulted in better results for body mass and cholesterol levels than CQ alone.

From the benefits mentioned above, the use of African Mango extract could be used by someone during a period of leaning and toning up by reducing total fat mass.
African Mango Negatives & Side Effects
In a recent animal study4, African Mango extract has shown to be safe and tolerable at doses of up to 2500mg/kg of bodyweight per day. There has not been any mention of any adverse side effects from African Mango extract use.
African Mango Recommended Doses & Ingredient Timing
Due to lack of studies, there is no consensus as to how much extract is required. However, it seems from the 2009 study by Ngondi that 300mg per day spread over two doses seems to be enough to lead to positive effects on fat mass and weight. The participants in the aforementioned study took two 150mg pills of African Mango Extract between 30-60 minutes prior to lunch and dinner.

Stacking African Mango
You can stack African Mango extract with any other specialised fat loss product or fat loss protein, however most likely it may be already included as an ingredient. African Mango can also pair well with other fat loss ingredients such as Raspberry Ketones, L-carnitine or Cissus Quadrangularis.
