Intra workouts are an increasingly popular supplement category, which has seen some rapid technological developments with regard to delivery and amino acid form. With branch-chain amino acids (BCAAs)making up the core component of your typical intra workout, the challenge is always how to revamp BCAAs, which have been around for decades. Recently supplement companies have sort to do this by changing the forms of BCAAs (i.e. peptide form), while the other approach has been to add new aminos to the intra workout mix, with citrulline being a common example.
In this article, we will take a look at some of the new intra workout supplements that might feature heavily in 2016.
The demand for natural supplements is increasing. So it makes perfect sense that we should expect to see more natural intra workout alternatives appear. With their category-leading product Xtend, Scivation have been one of the first to offer a natural alternative, which they have simply called Xtend Free. The product is pretty self explanatory with essentially the same make up as Xtend, albeit without the artificial colours, flavours and sweeteners. Expect this one to take off when its released in 2016 as people continue to demand natural supplement alternatives.
Although it was released a while back, Elemental Nutrition Peptides is still one of the most innovative and powerful intra workout supplements available on the market. With all three branched-chain amino acids in peptide form plus arginine, it's hard to find another intra workout that contains more bioavailable BCAAs. The other great feature is its taste. Peptide-based amino mixes are notorious for their bitter taste, but Elemental have done have great job masking the bitterness in this product. While you can still taste notes of bitterness, it does little to detract from the overall taste quality. With its premium ingredients, Peptides does come with a slightly higher price tag than your average intra workout, but hey - you get what you pay for right! Expect this supplement to stay strong in 2016.
While Scivation are releasing a number of new Xtend alternatives, its hard to see sales of the original Xtend falling any time soon. As a consistent top selling intra workout, we can expect sales of Xtend to continue to be strong into 2016. It's always hard to go pass a proven winning formula.
Xtend Go was introduced late 2015 and is a bit of a departure from Xtend’s tried and true intra workout formulation. With this product, Scivation are trying to further segment the intra workout market by introducing a stim version - so to speak - of Xtend. History will tell us that trying to leverage off the success of another product doesn’t always work. But with the popularity of Xtend, we’re predicting this product will take off in 2016.
IntraBoost was launched in 2015 and positioned as a more premium intra workout under the banner of Maxs new Lab Series. IntraBoost contains some nice features, with actives like HICA (alpha-hydroxy-isocaproic acid), glutamine peptide and vinpocetine being some of the more unqiue ingredients. It’s fair to say that sales for IntraBoost have not met Maxs expectations, but that’s not necessarily due to any fault of the product per se. With a quality unique formula behind it and a great long standing Aussie brand, we expect this product to gain more traction in the market and sell well in 2016.
Essential Amino BCAA Fuel is another one of BSc’s new ‘black label’ products that will appear in 2016. It’s unique by virtue of its high leucine content (i.e. 8:1:1 ratio). Despite little research on the optimal specific BCAA ratio, a surprising number of people like the aggressive leucine option. Essential Amino BCAA Fuel comes with some funky extras like beta-alanine, taurine, glutamine, glycine and arginine plus a vitamin and mineral mix. All these features make Essential Amino BCAA Fuel pretty unique, which is why we think it will be a success in 2016.
While AminoLast is not a new supplement, it still remains one of the best formulated intra workouts on the market. The key thing that differentiates AminoLast from competitors is its rich content of leucine-derived peptides. It is now well established that when administered in short peptide form, branch-chain amino acids like leucine are absorbed more rapidly and have a more marked anabolic effect. Gaspari has gone through some tough times of late, but it seems they are on the up again. So with any luck, AminoLast will again figure as a leading intraworkout supplement in 2016.
These days there's more choice than ever in intra workouts. This is great for consumers, but it does make it challeging for supplement manufacturers. In 2016, we can expect the intra workout supplement category to grow and more innovative products to be released.
