DHT - The Good & The Bad Side of Testosterone!
What is DHT?
A: Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is produced from the male hormone testosterone by the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. DHT is the androgen thought to be most responsible for the type of hair loss also known as male pattern baldness and can contribute to enlarged prostate in males. DHT has a very high affinity for the androgen receptor especially the DHT receptors in the scalp and prostate. Excessive DHT in the sebaceuos glands of the skin can also contribute to bad acne.
DHT does play and important role in maintaining muscle mass, sex drive, mental focus so we can’t eliminate it entirely as it’s more a matter of correcting the balance between excess DHT and bad estrogen build up.

Free Up Bound Testosterone So It Can Be Used!
Typically, less than 2% of total testosterone concentration is actually “free” or active; this is also commonly referred to as “Free Testosterone”. Upwards of 50% or more of your total circulating testosterone is bound to Sex-Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG), and the rest to albumin. What this basically means is Testosterone bound to SHBG is in effectively useless and can actually create and inbalance as estrogen tends to be the abundant hormone!
95% Urtica Dioica and Diindolymethane ( DIM ) Hormonal Optimizers:
Bullet Proof contains 400mg of Urtica Dioica Extract standardized to contain 95% 3,4-divanillyltetrahydrofuran the active ingredient of Nettle. Do not compare this to cheap leaf and root Nettle as the 95% Nettle is the ingredient used in scientific studies to have a positive effect on SHBG levels and blocking DHT receptor binding on prostate and hair follicles. We have also added 300mg of 99% pure DIM to optimize, balance and protect your hormone system.
In clinical research, Urtica Dioica has demonstrated the ability to stop the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (by inhibiting an enzyme required for the conversion), as well as to directly bind to SHBG itself - thereby preventing SHBG from binding to other hormones. Research also reveals that Nettles can prevent SHBG that has already bound to a hormone from attaching to the receptor sites, as well as to decrease the production of estrogens (estradiol and estrone) by inhibiting an enzyme required for their production. In addition to inhibiting SHBG binding, at least six constituents of Nettle inhibit aromatase, reducing conversion of androgens to estrogens. Urtica Dioica has also been shown to enhance NO ( Nitric Oxide ) levels.
DIM for optimum hormonal balance
In men, diminished estrogen metabolism and estrogen accumulation are central problems associated with aging. DIM strongly promotes its own metabolism and in doing so increases a more active and beneficial metabolism of estrogen. This estrogen metabolism is better because it converts estradiol health promoting 2-hydoxy metabolites. These metabolites help free testosterone from its binding protein SHBG for greater testosterone activity and can reduce testosterone and estrogen stimulation of the prostate gland. Together with a healthy diet and exercise, the metabolic shift from DIM results in a "younger" balance of testosterone to estrogen. DIM works very well for maintaining and increasing healthy testosterone levels and libido.
Chrysin: Aromatize Inhibitor
Testosterone is a hormone responsible for sex drive in both men and women. For testosterone to promote youthful sexual interest, satisfaction and performance, it must be freely available to cell receptor sites in the brain, the nerves, muscles and genitals. For many men, a safe and easy way to increase free testosterone is to prevent it from being converted (aromatized) into excess estrogen.
The bioflavonoid called Chrysin has been included in this formula as a natural aromatase-inhibitor.The problem with chrysin is that because of its poor absorption into the bloodstream it has not shown positive benefits until a recent pilot study found that when Chrysin is combined with BioPerine, reductions in serum estrogen (estradiol) and increases in total and free testosterone result in 30 days.
